Default New Atom Driver

Guys,

we do seem to have a moving here:

there's a new driver for Atom GPU on intel site
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...3&submit=Go%21

I installed it on Windows 7, ran a CrystalMark test and here what it shows:
GDI - 1405
D2D - 674
OGL - 230

It is more than I had before (D2D was 200 at most)

UPDATE: the problem with black desktop after sleep is solved

UPDATE 2: I have turned on Aero on W7 and woking with my system as usual, but the responsiveness of the system is superb. It is first time that I am happy to work with Vaio P, cause it now seems as to be worth its investments

ok - read the readme.txt and it explains how to install manually. However, there is no 'GRAPHICS' subdirectory and no lpcoUDA.INF file. Instead, use the LPCO directory and the igdlh32.inf file (the only one that shows). You sould be able to confirm the version of the dirver as 7.14.10.1005 once done.

In the link, it says that its for Vista, and it works with Windows 7. Will it work with XP?
how does the CrystalMark figures compare to the GMA500 updated gfx drivers on XP published earlier in the forum?
what are the number on Vista? what games will run on these figures?

sorry for all these questions, but i am only waiting for good gfx drivers to by the vaio p, its the only thing holding me off : ))))

WOW - it has made quite a difference...

My previous Win7 benchmarks were: 1.2, 4.1, 2.9, 2.4, 4.1
and are now: 1.9, 4.2, 2.9, 2.5, 4.1

More importantly - itunes video has gone from completely unwatchable to nearly perfect. Browsing the web feels snappier on some of the more gfx rich pages. iPlayer is still a little jumpy but almost watchable.

Definately a move in the right direction....

Hmmm - small problem - if I download the WMP version from BBC iPlayer it crashes the system - faulting on the new driver. I also get the crash if I try and adjust volume/brightness whilst video is playing (same old problem). Guess there are some bugs still - at least with 7.

Install this driver, it is a vast improvement from the previous driver as far as general video performance, I can finally use Aero on Windows 7 without a noticeable performance hit.

There is still work that needs to be done but this is a vast and noticeable improvement.

This driver is quite an improvement. I just watched an HQ YouTube video in full screen and it was pretty much flawless. I hope that Netflix and Hulu are just as good now. I'm going to have to try this on the SC3 I'm about to sell.

Hmm, I wonder why this new one posted above has a lower version than the driver for the Fujitsu U820? The Fujitsu driver says it hasn't been updated from the original that came on the device.

Installed it on Vista, much better. It fixed some icon list errors I had. Fullscreen video is now viewable. Webpage scrolling works a lot better.

Aero is acceptable fast, but has painting errors. I switched back to Basic :-)

Well, it appears the one in Windows Update for Windows 7 RC 7100 is a newer version than the one shown on OP's link. The version I have from Device Manager is: 7.14.10.1092.

So those on Win7 should try to do a Windows Update and see how it goes... my Win Experience numbers are the same as rahk's.

I was ready (literally, i had xp disk in my usb external drive) to install XP on my P when I saw this post.

It does make a pretty significant difference in both video playback and web browsing speed.

I think I'll try this for a few days.

I have installed this one on my D4 and have so far noticed no difference in general use but it does enable 3D hardware acceleration. I tried to run Baldur's Gate 2 again and it starts now although it is still too unstable to actually play. It uses OpenGL, I might need to try an D3D game.

Intel messed up the build number on this. Actually it is 1105 (not 1005). To install this under Windows 7 just use the compatibility mode and select as OS Vista. Runs good on the Sharp D4 and enables more D3D games to work properly.
