Default How to play fullscreen HD video in XP

I can play fullscreen HD video in Vista but could not play them in XP.
The following is a method to play fullscreen HD in XP.

Youtube of video play:

Quick Video of the Fantastic 4 720p Trailer
Downloaded from here: http://www.h264info.com/clips.html
Without any changes, video did not play acceptable at all.

Here are a few things for starters in XP.
Upgrade to the latest (that I could find XP driver for the GMA 500)
Version 1095
http://i-mbook.co.kr/download/Video.zip

I installed both Coveavc and powerdvd
http://www.coreavc.com/
You can alternatively Install Cyberlink PowerDVD as described in other post

Install Kmplayer
http://kmplayer.en.softonic.com/

Here is how to configure Kmplayer to play HD:

Step1.
Goto preferences and config the setting as shown below

Step 2. Goto the external decoder search

Step 3
hit add after scan and when the list is pulled choose all or at least coreavc or cyberlink

Step 4 Change Mpeg2 , H.264 and AvC1 to Cyberlink or CoreAVc both work good.

Step 5.
Go to video processing and change the general tab to what is shown below:

Step 6 on next thread.

Default Re: Finally got HD video playing full screen in XP

Step 6.
Go to video processing and render and make the following changes

Step 7.
Close and try a video. When the Attention screen pops up. Check Enhanced Video Rendering and check do not display again

This plays both the 1080 and 720 video very well if not excellent. XP IS THE WAY TO GO WITH THE P!!!!!

This can also be used in Vista with good results as well!!!

Optional Helping items but not necessary;

Optional Install Notebook Hardware Control (Use to set to max speed when on battery if desired.)
http://www.pbus-167.com/ Works fine on the Sony P.

I use mine so I left alone: Remove Smartwii. This can be found in another thread. I left mine runnning.

This same method is used on the everun note.

since you brought up using directshow filters, has anyone been able to use the intel media codecs. in particular, the h.264 one?

these are the ones i'm talking about:
Intel® Media Codecs AAC Decoder for Intel® System Controller Hub
Intel® Media Codecs AC3 Decoder for Intel® System Controller Hub
Intel® Media Codecs H.264 Decoder for Intel® System Controller Hub
Intel® Media Codecs MP4 Splitter for Intel® System Controller Hub
Intel® Media Codecs MPEG-2 Decoder for Intel® System Controller Hub
Intel® Media Codecs MPEG-2 Splitter for Intel® System Controller Hub
Intel® Media Codecs MPEG-4 Decoder for Intel® System Controller Hub
you should see them when adding external codecs in both kmplayer and media player classic.

i know the coreavc and cyberlink h.264 decoders work well but i just wanted to try the intel one to see if it works better. however, i haven't been able to get it work.

Ishman, great guide, but I'm still not convinced that this is needed. What type of XP install are you using ?? Full or an NLite version ?? The P only needs a cut-down version of the services deployed on a full XP system, same with Vista, whilst it looks like nothing is happening via the task manager it can still get bogged down by wasted resources and extra programs with '0' values running in the background.
If you look on MicroPCtalk or hunt around for the Carputer forums for the minimum XP installations, you'll see how bare you can run a high spec PC like the P, with a minimal footprint and maximum output. Simple things like throwing the system cache into RAM at startup and disabling the NTFS last access time, can change quite a bit.
Don't get me wrong, I love the guide, and welcome everything you are doing. I just think that on a full streamlined XP system, some of the things you have put in place might not be needed.

Keep up the good work

I got a nlite version of xp. The system runs very fast, but you will need that setup to run full mode 1080 or 720 without stutter regardless how trimmed down system you have. I think that a new driver that takes full advantage of the built in hardware will be the only saving grace. I don't need to do any of this in my trimmed down optimized vista and I can get full video to run fine , and I think the reason is the drivers. This will just enhance your playback.

Another thing is this allows you to keep smartwii without issues.

I dual boot my P. I kept vista because I could not get the video to play at full screen. Now I might just kill my Vista. The trimed version works well on my Aigo with XP loaded. (It only has 4GB SSD and 800 mhz )

Hi K8t,

Can you share the files pertaining to these codecs? I like to test these on my SC3. These decoder files are the ones that were referenced in early GMA500 driver notes but never included in Production GMA500 drivers.... I don't know why my SC3 does not have them...

You can find the link to these files on your system with a filter manager like Radlight or Filmerit. Please include any other Intel Media Codec you find in your system... I'm very interested to try them out.

you could download the vista install file here:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...=4367&os_id=28

you can use this utility to extract the .dll's:
http://legroom.net/software/uniextract

the files are:
imc_aac_dec_ds.dll
imc_ac3_dec_ds.dll
imc_h264_dec_ds.dll
imc_mp2_dec_ds.dll
imc_mp2_spl_ds.dll
imc_mp4_dec_ds.dll
imc_mp4_spl_ds.dll
imc_vc1_dec_mf.dll

i hope that helps.

I will get this error "The overlay mixer is being used other application" that's with KMP, other programs give similar error and that is with every video file, not only HD. Coming back to HD, I have powerdvd installed and powerdvd gives similar error and plays sound only. Any ideas?

Edit: choose vmr9 renderless and it works (Y)

Holy! Nice work Ishman + k8t. I have successfully gotten 1080P + 720P working on Vista with no lag stuttering or audio issues! HUGE improvement on how this unit came untouched (I couldn't even play 20mb files without lag). Installed DirectX 10 + SP2 + Crapload of Vista Tweaks = Huge Video performance increase. Just wish I could get HQ youtube videos to work like this! Thanks again!
