As for the Xbox, that one was definitely made very easy for modders, and I too modded that to use as a Media Center (too bad it can't do HD video though, that was the biggest reason I stopped), but none of these are UMPC related.

I'd be willing to bet it won't be that hard to put a GPS unit in many of the netbooks though, as I said, its only 4 wires, and the worst case scenario would be you disable one of the external USB ports to connect it. What might be an issue with that though is the antenna and getting a strong enough signal to lock onto satellites.
Well the points were about the same on the PS2 and the Wii, they weren't bigger that's for sure. In fact the points on the Wii were MUCH easier to do, took maybe 30 minutes and that was with prep. Some of the PS2 spots were in such an awkward place and extremely close to other pins. Modding one of these netbooks would be a fun thing to do and if I had the money I'd probably do all the mods I could. I wonder what other things they could come up with though that would actually be beneficial to me.

Would an LS800 count as a umpc? I bought an LS800 about 2 years ago cause I thought the form factor was awesome. I planned to use it for note taking so battery life was very important for me. Since it was so lightweight, I was willing to add weight by increasing the cell count from 3 to 12. I also didn't like the fact that it lacked a fan, so I designed an enclosure around the need for a fan, increased cell count (I also added a touch screen and external HD)

There's a switch for the external hd, and one for the touch screen
There's a USB hub so that it retains two free usb ports while allowing the touchscreen controller and external HD to be active.

The thickness is around the size of a hardcover novel. Not extremely big to carry around and it feels sturdy while taking notes. The battery life is about 9 hours

@ xeijix: What's a pocketables album? The easiest way to insert images is to sign up for a free Photobucket account. You can upload the photos there and then just copy-and-paste the IMG code into your post here.

It's actually an option under the "Quick Links" link at near the top of the page.

Eep! I never noticed that before (who put me in charge of this place?! ). There must be some sort of default setting that's preventing it from showing up correctly. I'll do some digging in the admin panel.

Update: Okay, I found the album options setting and everything looks fine. Nothing is disabled or restricted. xeijix must have been talking about something else...

Can anyone share some tips about soldering a mini-pci-e connector to a board that has solder the pads without the connector already mounted? I have a couple of devices (an Asus 701, for example) that the connector, but the pads are way too small and close together.

To do something like that you would need to have a really good soldering iron and you would probably need someone who is a expert at soldering to do a job like that with such small connections.

That is possible, if you are attempting this yourself I would pratice soldering on something else first, if you have never soldered anything before it may be very hard for you as this is advanced soldering!

Pic up a low wat soldering iron with the finest tip you can find!
